A registered nonprofit organization dedicated to bird habitat conservation and education — based in Brunswick County, North Carolina.
Why we exist
saveabird Inc® was founded on a simple but urgent belief: that birds and their habitats deserve protection, and that education is the most powerful tool we have to make that happen.
Our mission is to raise awareness of all birds and their habitats through online and live educational platforms — making bird conservation knowledge accessible to everyone, completely free of charge.
From the endangered Red-Cockaded Woodpecker in the longleaf pine forests of Boiling Spring Lakes, to the shorebirds and wading birds along Brunswick County's stunning coastline, we believe every bird deserves a safe place to live — and every person deserves the chance to learn about them.
Our values
Conservation
Protecting bird habitats is protecting ecosystems. We advocate for all birds and the environments they depend on.
Education
All of our classes are free. Knowledge about birds and their habitats should be available to everyone.
Community
Based in Brunswick County, NC — we serve our local community while contributing to global bird conservation.
Science
We partner with Cornell Lab, Audubon, and USFWS to bring accurate, research-based information to our students.
Our founder
Judith Smetana
Judith Smetana is the founder and executive director of saveabird Inc®, a registered nonprofit organization based in Southport, North Carolina. A lifelong lover of birds and the natural world, Judith founded saveabird Inc® to bring bird habitat education to her community and beyond.
Judith is also the founder and CEO of cuteenglishteacher LLC®, an AI-powered English coaching platform, and holds extensive experience in education, corrections, and nonprofit management. She is based in Brunswick County, NC — home to some of the most remarkable bird habitats on the East Coast, including critical Red-Cockaded Woodpecker territory in Boiling Spring Lakes.
